Cobblers striker Lewis Wilson tasted defeat on his loan debut for Kettering Town but his performance was described by manager Alan Doyle as ‘great’.
The Poppies lost 4-1 to Bedworth United at Corby Town’s Steel Park ground on Sunday.
By Doyle’s own admission, there were more negatives than anything else for the Kettering boss but there was at least one positive to come out of a fourth successive defeat in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division.
That was the performance of striker Wilson, who was sent on loan to the ailing club on Friday and made an instant impact.
Wilson opened the scoring after 14 minutes and, although Bedworth fought back to eventually claim a comfortable victory, Doyle was able to pick out the new frontman for praise.
“Lewis was great for us and you could see that he had come from a higher level,” the Kettering manager said.
“He scored a goal and he took it really well so he has done what we brought him in to do.
“I was always confident he would make a quick impact for the team and that is what he did. It was just a shame about what happened after that goal.”
Wilson, who played for another county club as a youngster when part of Rushden & Diamonds’ youth system, will be on loan with Kettering until January 2.
