Long delays are being reported on the A45 in Northampton after an accident involving a lorry carrying a crane this morning.
Lanes 2 and 3 on the westbound carriageway between Brackmills and Queen Eleanor roundabout are currently closed due to the accident, which has caused damage to an overhead sign.
The accident was reported to the police at 9.40am, and Northamptonshire County Council’s highways team has remained at the scene since to fix the damage.
A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: “After rush hour the entire carriageway westbound between Brackmills and Queen Eleanor will be closed to secure the area. Eastbound will also likely be closed. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes.”
Chron reporter John Harrison, who has driven past the scene, said: “The crane has now gone, but it looks as if they have closed off one of the lanes just in case the sign falls down. Once you pass Brackmills the traffic is fine.”
