Northamptonshire Titans were 64-43 winners against Leicester Warriors in the EBL VCARS.co.uk Division Two Women SW Midlands Division.
Titans went into the game with two consecutive losses and without injured captain Angelina Browne.
Titans opened their account with Katie Bayliss finding the bottom of the hoop, but it was the Titans defence that ‘on song’ as the visitors could only muster nine points in the first quarter, whilst the inside dominance of Nauel Cali continued to cause the warriors problem with Titans taking a 17-9 lead.
The second quarter was a much even affair but Titans still took a 28-19 lead into the locker room.
A resurged Titans brought back that intensity on defence causing warriors turnovers and making them having to settle for tougher looks at the basket and even though the final quarter was a high scoring affair for both teams Titans ran out 64-43 winners.
Coach Powell said: “We know we have not shown our best over the last week, but we are working towards finding the solution.
“This performance goes some way towards that.
“I thought Sascha Thompson had her best game to date but it was the work ethic of the whole team that got the job done today and that was the most pleasing.”
EBL Under 14 Boys Midlands Conference:
Northamptonshire Titans 84 Notts Nova 47
Titans under 14s were at home on Saturday to take on Notts Nova in a top of the table clash.
Titans once again came out on top as they sealed Nova’s fate in the first quarter with the use of some pretty impressive Farrar/St Vie double team defence which aided an 11 point lead.
The second quarter however saw a whole five minutes without a Titans score, which allowed Nova to close the gap.
The teams went into the locker room with the Titans slipping to only a 35-24 lead.
The second half began with a strong Titans side allowing Nova only four points in the first eight minutes.
Minute four saw an assault by Titans’ Mr Smooth, Trei St Vie Huthinson dancing in and out of the paintwork terrorising the Nova defence with an incredible 12-0 run.
The fourth quarter sealed the deal to bring the score home to an 83-47 finish without answer.
A fantastic game was had by top scorer Trei St Vie with 29, England’s Hayden Alcindor 14 and captain Elliot ‘Bosh’ Farrar with 12.
