Gary Boyd will almost certainly be playing his golf on the Challenge Tour next season after failing to retain his European Tour card in Q School at the PGA Catalunya Resort, Spain.
The 26-year-old, who started with scores of 76 and 70, bagged six birdies in an inconsistent 73, before shooting four birdies and an eagle in a brilliant fourth round of 67 to make the cut.
Needing a top 25 finish to join Europe’s elite for a fourth successive year, Boyd shot five birdies in a penultimate round of 70 before closing with a 73 to grab a tie for 44th place.
Boyd is still hoping to receive an entry into the final event of the year in South Africa, but only a maiden European Tour victory would guarantee full playing rights for the next 12 months.
