Saints fly-half Lamb shrugs off Gardens fans’ jeers

Ryan Lamb says the jeers he received for winning the man of the match award against London Welsh didn’t bother him.

The enigmatic fly-half was booed by a small section of the Saints faithful after steering his side to a 23-16 win at Franklin’s Gardens two weeks ago.

After the game he took to social networking site Twitter, reacting in a witty manner to the discontent of some home fans.

He said: “First time iv ever been jeered for getting mom! Haha mine was @Blockmonstahz (Samu Manoa) if its any consolation!?”

And when asked about the incident at this week’s media day, Lamb said: “Everyone’s got their opinion but I was quite happy with how I played and Jim (Mallinder) was happy with how I played so I don’t mind.

“Man of the match and things like that don’t really matter to me, but I think Samu was immense in that game so I understand why I might have got a bit of a jeer.”

Lamb’s performances have improved significantly in recent weeks and he will start in tomorrow night’s (Fri) Heineken Cup clash with Ulster at Franklin’s Gardens, though he still splits opinion in the stands.

And he accepts that is the nature of his job as a fly-half.

“If things go wrong you get a bit of stick and if things go right you get some plaudits but you just try to do the job for your team,” he said.

“It’s a 15-man game and we’ve got some great players and threats all over the pitch so hopefully I can just do my job and the results will look after themselves.”
