The RSPCA is appealing for information after a dying emaciated dog was found dumped in the Weston Favell area of Northampton.
The German shepherd was found by a member of the public and taken to a vet who then reported the case to the RSPCA.
Despite the vet’s efforts to save the animal, the dog had to be put to sleep to prevent him suffering further. The animal was too emaciated to survive and was having seizures.
The dog was male, neutered and about five-years-old. It had no collar and was not microchipped when foud on December 2.
RSPCA inspector Damian Wooliscroft said: “This dog was just a bag of bones and weighed just 16kg whereby the ideal weight for a dog this size should be around 36kg. The poor dog was slowly dying and someone just dumped him, I can’t believe that anyone could be so cruel.
“The dog had pressure sores on his body as a result of the lack of fat covering his bones which were sticking out.
“I want to do all I can to find the person responsible for this terrible case of animal cruelty.
“Anyone who may recognise this dog, or perhaps knows who had owned him is urged to call me on the RSPCA inspector appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
