Dave Love, Martin Cinato and Connor Cinato claimed The Famous Grouse Triples crown with a hard-fought victory over Carl Wigfield’s trio.

The competition, which is staged at Desborough IBC, attracts teams from a wide area and is played in qualifying groups leading up to the weekend’s finals day.

The top 12 triples from the qualifying groups played a round-robin series of matches in two groups with the top triple from each group contesting the final.

The winners of Group One were Dave Love (Wellingborough IBC) Martin Cinato and Connor Cinato (Desborough) with the runners-up being Will Clelland, Norman Gibb and George Warren.

Donna Williamson (Kingsthorpe), Carl Wigfield and Carl Haines (both Desborough) came out on top of Group Two with Ron Chambers, John Haines and Matt Pownall (all Desborough) in second place.

The final was a very close affair and going into the last end the scores were level at 4-4.

With the skips having one bowl each left, Connor Cinato was one down but was able to move the opposing shot bowl to hold two shots and a winning lie, and Wigfield missed his target when running at the head.

So the honours of being placed first went to Love, and the Cinato’s with a score of 6-4.
