Catching criminals intent on spoiling Christmas for others was the aim of Northamptonshire Police’s latest Operation Guardian high-impact day.
Twelve warrants were executed across the county yesterday - five in Northampton, four in Wellingborough and three in Kettering - which led to five arrests and four cautions.
Four people were arrested on suspicion of burglary and one person was arrested for possession of drugs with intent to supply.
In Northampton, warrants were carried out in Eastfield Road, Duston, The Briars in Briar Hill, a business in The Drapery, Coverack Close in Delapre and Archangel Square in Camp Hill.
Officers also carried out high-visibility patrols and concentrated on getting the message about handling stolen items out to premises which sell second-hand goods.
Speaking yesterday, Inspector Kev Byrne, who led the operation, said: “Today we have got in excess of 130 officers from all of our departments, working with a common purpose, in order to positively and proactively deal with serious acquisitive crime.
“Whether we arrest them on a misuse of drugs warrant or theft, it doesn’t matter. It is about arresting offenders. Every time a person does something wrong, we need to be there and come down on them like a ton of bricks.
“Why are we doing this so close to Christmas? We are still getting burglaries where people’s Christmas presents are being stolen.
“We are committed to arresting any offenders involved in burglary and auto crime, especially at this time of year. These are the people that are spoiling other people’s Christmas. These criminals are the people whose Christmas we are quite happy to spoil.”
