An undercover police operation in Northampton to target car thieves saw 14 people arrested in December.
Northamptonshire Police has said local officers in Northampton North is running a proactive operation across the sector as part of Operation Guardian to reduce vehicle crime and burglaries of people’s homes.
Officers are carrying out highly visible patrols as well as touring identified hot spot areas at all times of the day and night in plain clothes.
Sergeant Richard Bailey said: “Throughout December, our plain clothed officers made 14 arrests of identified offenders, disrupting their activity and resulting in several being charged and put before the courts.
“We continue to encourage people to report any suspicious activity – we will act on information provided by the public.
“In early December, we received intelligence that stolen property from a burglary carried out the previous day was believed to be at an address on the sector. We quickly executed a warrant and recovered the stolen property, as well as discovering a small cannabis factory in the loft.
“Officers are also out and about in the community looking for vehicles with valuables on display.
“Motorists that have left items in their vehicles will receive a letter from the police to encourage them to take some simple steps to avoid becoming a victim of crime.”
