The A14 is still closed in both direction after a fuel tanker overturned, leaking an ‘ethanol substance’ onto the carriageway this morning.
The road has been closed since about 6.30am this morning between junctions 13 (Thrapston) and 21 (Brampton Hut and the A1).
The Highways Agency said the road is expected to be closed until Thursday afternoon.
A spokesman said: “The incident, involving an overturned chemical tanker, happened at about 6.30am on the westbound carriageway between junctions 16 and 15.
“Diversions are in place but drivers are being urged to consider alternative routes or delay their journeys until the route has re-opened or traffic conditions have improved. Traffic along the diversion route will be far heavier than normal.”
Callum Faint, station commander at Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters arrived to discover the tanker on its side, with an ethanol substance leaking from it.
When fire crews from Cambridgeshire arrived at the scene, they found the driver already out of his vehicle.
He has been taken to hospital and his injuries were described as not life-threatening.
Diversions are in place via the A605 and the A1.
