More than 90 Northamptonshire schools announced on Sunday night that they would close on Monday because of snow.
As the weather deteriorated throughout Sunday, head teachers took the decision early to inform parents about closures and Northamptonshire County Council warned school transport could be hit by the snow.
Many schools blamed ‘unsafe conditions’ on school sites and ‘dangerous roads’ for closures.
But some, including Collingtree CEVA School said parents could help staff clear snow if they wanted.
Others, such as Kingsthorpe College, Danetre and Southbrook Learning Village, The Parker E-ACT Academy, and Magdalen College School said the schools would close, but scheduled exams would still be held.
