A woman had a punch thrown at her by men who had earlier thrown a cat into the River Nene, police have revealed.
The incident happened between 1.15pm and 2.10pm on Sunday, January 13, when three men were seen walking along the tow path of the River Nene, close to Carlsberg brewery and Morrisons.
One of the men was then spotted throwing a black cat into the river.
Police have revealed a woman approached the men, close to the White Hart pub, but one of the men then threw a punch at her.
The first man is described as a black, aged 16 to 19 years of age, and was wearing a red hooded top with a black coat over the top.
The second man was black, 5ft 8in with a broader build and he was wearing a black jacket with a white Ralph Lauren horse on the front.
The third man was also black, aged 16 to 19 years of age, and was wearing a black hooded top.
Police say the cat was rescued and treated.
