The parents of a baby who died aged just seven weeks old have appeared in court charged with his murder.

Adam Kightley, aged 23, and 21-year-old Jackie Parker, both from Northampton, appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday afternoon.

The hearing lasted only a few minutes and the pair are due to appear at Northampton Crown Court tomorrow morning.

Seven-week-old Jamie Kightley of London Road, Far Cotton, died at Northampton General Hospital on Saturday, March 17, last year.

Extensive tests have been carried out by experts on his body over the last ten months, before the pair were charged with his murder this morning.

Both Kightley and Parker are charged with baby Jamie’s murder, as well as an additional charge of neglect.

Kightley, of London Road, Far Cotton appeared dressed in a grey tracksuit, while Parker, whose address was given as Newcombe Road, Spencer, appeared dressed in a light grey jumper.

In the dock, the pair spoke only to confirm their names.

Both appeared emotional, while members of their families were in court to support them.

Prosecuting, Keith Lumb, said the charges related to the alleged murder of baby Jamie between March 15 and March 18 last year at a flat in London Road, Far Cotton.

Chairman of the bench, Carol Taylor, said: “This matter has been sent to the crown court and will be heard tomorrow morning. Until then you are remanded into custody.”

The pair made no application for bail.

As they were led from court, one member of the public shouted: “Love you, Adam.”
