Police have named a Northampton student who died in hospital after an accident which forced a three-hour closure of a busy commuter route.
Chloe Adkins died of her injuries late on Saturday after being struck by a Mercedes car in Hagley Road, Birmingham, shortly before 3pm on Friday.
West Midlands Police today said the 20-year-old was originally from Northampton but was studying in Birmingham.
Sergeant Gavin Green, from the West Midlands Regional Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are investigating the movements of the silver Mercedes prior to the crash and what led to it being involved in a collision with a pedestrian.
“With this in mind, I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw the silver Mercedes before the crash to get in touch.”
A spokesman for Aston University said: “Aston University can confirm that one of its students, Chloe Adkins, was tragically involved in a collision with a car on Friday. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Chloe died as a result of her injuries in hospital on Saturday evening.
“We are all saddened and upset by the tragic death of Chloe, a third year undergraduate student based in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. She was a well- liked, popular student and our condolences and thoughts are with her family and friends. We will do everything we can to support her friends and family during this sad and upsetting time.”
