ISHMEL DEMONTAGNAC has vowed to excite the Cobblers supporters after agreeing to sign a two-year deal with the club.

The 24-year-old will put pen to paper on a contract at Sixfields when his arrangement at Notts County expires this summer.

Demontagnac, who has played at the top level of English football with Blackpool, becomes manager Aidy Boothroyd’s third new signing of the summer after recruiting striker Clive Platt and utility forward Alex Nicholls.

The club were in need of wide players following the sale of Michael Jacobs to Derby County and Toni Silva’s return to Liverpool following the conclusion of his loan spell.

And Demontagnac is hoping to fill that void with his own blend of ‘pace and excitement.’

“I’ve had a couple of loan spells in league two,” he said. “I played there a couple of times for Walsall and got promoted with them from there as well.

“I’m looking forward to it. I’m an exciting player and the supporters here should soon see what I’m all about.

“I can play right or left, it doesn’t make a difference, I’m all about pace and excitement.

“Every league is difficult because they all have a lot of goals but I can’t wait to get going and start helping the club.”

Demontagnac has had off-field issues before – in November 2008 he was sacked by Walsall for ‘a series of serious breaches of club discipline’ and two years later found himself disciplined by Blackpool for breaking in-house club rules.

The feeling, though, is that Boothroyd, who has a solid reputation for getting the best out of ‘troubled’ players, can help revive the player’s career, and his honesty was highlighted as a key factor in Demontagnac’s decision to sign for the Cobblers.

“I had a little meeting with him (Boothroyd) and I liked his honesty,” he said. “Everything seemed right to sign here.

“His enthusiasm and honesty impressed me. He’s a big manager and I’m looking forward to playing for him.

“It’s a fresh start for me and I’m really looking forward to it – I can’t wait for the season to start.”
