Brixworth All Saints will feel their NFA Junior Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Cogenhoe United Reserves was a huge opprtunity squandered.

The Combination Premier Division side went out 4-1 after extra-time, but they will be rueing a host of missed chances in normal time.

UCL side Cogenhoe failed to register a single shot on target from open play in the opening 90 minutes, only taking the lead from a fortuitous penalty, yet the Combination side could not capitalise.

An 87th minute goal for Brixworth restored parity and took the game into extra-time, but Brixworth were only on level terms for five minutes as Cogenhoe suddenly discovered the Midas-touch in the extra half-hour, converting every chance that fell their way.

Given too much time and space by the Brixworth defence, Cogenhoe’s diminutive forward turned and slotted home before the lead was extended by a deflected header.

Deep into the second period of extra time Cogenhoe added a fourt to record a scoreline that seriously flattered them.
