Drivers are being warned to expect diversions if they are travelling via the Catthorpe interchange in Northamptonshire later this month.

The Highways Agency is planning to resurface four sections of road on the A14 near Swinford and the M6 near Catthorpe over a period of three weeks starting on Monday, February 18.

All the work will take place at night, from 10pm to 6am, and the road closures will be in one location at a time.

Sections of road affected include the A14 near Swinford, both east and westbound from M1 junction 19 to A14 junction two.

The M6 northbound junction one exit slip road and Catthorpe, the M6 southbound from junction one to M1 junction 19 at Catthorpe and the M6 northbound from M1 junction 19 at Catthorpe and the A5 overbridge.

The following diversions will be in operation:

When the southbound M6 is closed between junction one and the M1 junction 19, traffic will leave the M6 at junction one and take the A426, the A5 and the A4303 before joining the M1 southbound at junction 20.

Traffic will then be diverted either northbound or southbound depending on its destination.

During the closure of the M6 northbound between Catthorpe and the A5 overbridge, M1 northbound traffic wishing to join the M6 northbound will be diverted to the M1 junction 20, A4303, A5 and A426 before rejoining the M6 northbound at junction one.

Highways Agency project manager Graham Littlechild said: “The road surface at these locations has come to the end of its serviceable life and the work is therefore essential to ensure safety for drivers.

“Every effort has been made to ensure disruption to drivers is kept to a minimum, and we will be working hard to ensure the work is completed as quickly as possible. During the work we advise road users to plan their journeys to avoid delays.”
