A LORRY driver has been given a suspended prison sentence for stealing more than 150 Samsung media players, worth £17,000, during a delivery from Northampton to Manchester.

Krystof Michalak, aged 34, stole the devices after picking up the delivery from Yusen Logistics, based in Grange Park, in October 2011.

The agency driver then drove them to Wythenshawe, where the load was transferred to another vehicle and taken to Oldham.

When it arrived, however, staff found the goods – which had been shrink wrapped, security tagged and photographed before departure – had been tampered with.

It was found that Polish national Michalak had made four unauthorised stops at service stations on route. Northampton Crown Court heard he was the “fall guy” in a plot to raid the firm.

Michalak, from Coventry, was sentenced to six months in prison, which was suspended for two years. He was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
