Northants offer Twenty20 deal to Aussie White

Cameron White is close to agreeing to a second spell at the County Ground.

The 29-year-old Australian has been offered a contract for the duration of the 2013 Twenty20 competition, mirroring the deal he was on last year where he was one of the few bright spots in a dismal campaign.

White’s signature would provide a significant boost for the County who are aiming for a vast improvement in their limited overs form.

And chief executive David Smith admitted that while there are a couple of minor details to be ironed out, he expects there to be progress by the end of the week.

He said: “We’ve made an offer and we’re not that far apart with everything.

“He wants to come back, we need a batsman of his ability in the Twenty20 and it would certainly make us more competitive.

“There is always a bit of dialogue when it comes to sorting out a contract but nothing that we need to clarify will be a deal-breaker.”

If White does sign, the County would be left with one vacant overseas slot for the tournament with their main target, Trent Copeland, lined up for a stint, should he put pen to paper, that will include County Championship and Yorkshire Bank 40 fixtures only.
