Boss Jon Brady admits Brackley have done very well to secure the signing of Izak Reid.
The winger was released by npower League Two side Morecambe last week and Brady wasted no time in bringing him to St James’ Park.
Reid went on to score on his debut in a 2-1 win against Harrogate last Saturday and he was the star of the show on Tuesday night, scoring twice in a 3-0 win at Stalybridge.
The 23-year-old had played 23 games for Morecambe this season, but found himself out of the side during the middle of last month.
Shrimps boss Jim Bentley sent him on his way with his best wishes and Brady, on the advice of physio Karl Ballard, snapped him up.
And the Brackley manager couldn’t be happier with the deal: “Izak is trying to find his fitness at the moment and in three or four games he’ll really hit his straps.
“There’s a lot more to come from him and we’ve done well to get him.
“He was released by Morecambe and could only sign for a club at our level or below.
“I’d heard of him from Karl Ballard, who said he was an excellent player.
“He’s got pace, quality on the ball and he’s a League player.”
Brady will be hoping Reid can again weave his magic when Brackley host Solihull Moors in Blue Square Bet North on Saturday.
The Saints are sitting pretty in third after back-to-back wins, but Tuesday night’s Stalybridge success cost them dear.
Brady lost Michael Corcoran, Curtis McDonald and Glenn Walker to injury, and with Brett Solkhon, Elliot Sandy and Gary Mulligan already struggling, the Saints’ squad is threadbare.
Brady said: “We only had nine players left on the pitch at the end of the game and I might have to dust my boots off soon.
“We’ve got wingers playing in central midfield positions and it’s not ideal.
“You can only get away with it for so long.
“Solihull are a good side and they had a good run recently so they can’t be underestimated, and we certainly won’t be doing that on Saturday.”
WOODFORD UNITED
Oddy says current situation is a ‘nightmare’
Paul Oddy has revealed Woodford United will go into Saturday’s game against Guildford City without having trained this week. And the joint-boss admits the current situation at the club is a ‘nightmare’. The Reds, who are without a point in the Southern League Division One Central this season, have struggled for numbers at recent training sessions. Players have been hit by work commitments and travel problems, but with Woodford unable to pay top money, Oddy and co-manager Pete Harris are forced to accept the situation. Oddy, who saw his side lose 5-0 at Fleet Town last weekend, said: “Do you think they all turn up for training? No, they don’t. “We always seem to have the defenders there but where we train, Kingsthorpe College, has been closed because of the weather. “We’re going into Saturday’s game without a real get-together during the week and it’s a nightmare.”
CORBY TOWN
Plummer calls for Steelmen support
Chris Plummer has urged the people of Corby to ensure their football club’s supporters are not outnumbered by the fans of Blue Square Bet North runaway leaders Chester on Saturday. Corby Town take on the champions-elect at Steel Park as they look to end a run of three successive defeats. A big crowd is expected for the clash with Chester being well followed all around the country, and Corby boss Plummer said: “Hopefully our fans won’t be outnumbered but Chester will bring a lot of fans here, there is no doubt about that.”
Kick-off at Steel Park is 3pm.
