A cafe and shelter could soon be built at Northampton’s skatepark.

Councillors at the Guildhall are due to approve plans on Wednesday to invest a further £150,000 in the Radlands skatepark in Bedford Road.

The cash would be used to build a cafe with a toilet and shelter for park users.

The council’s cabinet member for regeneration, Councillor Tim Hadland (Con, Old Duston) said: “The skatepark is a huge success. From the day it opened there were people of all ages enjoying the fresh air, sunshine and the sport they love.

“So we’ve been looking at what we can do to make our skate park even better.

“A cafe would be a great addition, and give our town’s skaters somewhere to grab a snack or drink between performing tricks and demonstrating their next gravity-defying move.”

The £250,000 skatepark has attracted thousands of skateboarders, BMXers, stunt scooter riders and inline skaters to Northampton.

The new plans would see a cafe building with toilets added to the area. Construction would be expected to be completed in July, with the council putting the management of the café out to tender.
