Police have confirmed they are investigating a suspected arson attack, which saw fire severely damage three cars and ravage a house in Wootton.
Firefighters were called to Fieldgate Close, in Wootton, last night at 1.40am. Three cars were severely damaged by fire, and the flames spread to the house.
The Chron understands six people lived at the address and all were safely evacuated.
Residents of Fieldgate Close described the scene.
Ian Street said: “There was a lot of noise and banging which we assumed was the car being moved. Then we heard a lot of shouting as people were coming out of the house. The flames were huge.
“There was a large group of people in the street. My wife was with them. The reports are that everyone got out, which is the main thing.
“It took them a long time to put the fire out. They were putting lots of water on and another bit would catch fire.”
Craig Reed’s family helped two of the people from the fire-affected house to safety.
Mr Reed said: “I was asleep and my dad woke me up. I saw loads of smoke and the flames were licking up over the roof.
“There were loads of people in the street and loads of fire engines.”
A fire and rescue spokesman said: “We were called at 1.40am. There have been three cars involved in fire. “The fire then affected part of one of the properties on the road.
“This was a three-storey detached property.
“Firefighters from The Mounts, Mereway and Earls Barton, as well as the aerial appliance from Moulton attended.”
A police spokesman has this morning confirmed the cause is believed to be suspicious.
