MIDFIELDER Paul Turnbull is on the brink of leaving the Cobblers.

Signed by then manager Gary Johnson for an undisclosed fee last summer from Stockport County, Turnbull has been frozen out of the first team picture since the turn of the year.

He was initially given starts by Aidy Boothroyd after he took over at the helm following Johnson’s sacking, but hasn’t featured since the 2-0 defeat at Oxford United on December 17.

He spent a loan spell at Stockport County last season, and was placed on the transfer list by Boothroyd at the end of the campaign.

Interest has been limited in the 23-year-old, who has been part of the Cobblers’ pre-season campaign, but it seems he has now found a new club.

Turnbull wasn’t involved when the official Cobblers team picture was taken at Sixfields earlier today (Fri) and Boothroyd revealed: “I am hopeful that Paul is going to be organised in the next couple of days.

“So I didn’t see the point in putting him in the team photo because he is not going to be here.”

Turnbull made 12 starts and six substitute appearances for the Cobblers, scoring one goal in the 2-1 Carling Cup win at Ipswich Town last August.

Another absentee from the photo-shoot was Nana, who has been out of action since snapping his cruciate ligament at AFC Wimbledon in September.

But Boothroyd says the former Peterborough United man is making good progress.

“Hopefully we will be looking to get him back into training in the next four to six weeks,” said the Cobblers boss.

“It will be a boost to see him back, as it will be another player and it will be good for us.”

The Cobblers take on Tottenham Hotspur at Sixfields in their penultimate warm-up game of pre-season tomorrow (Sat, ko 3pm).
