A Northampton pensioner has been fined for terrorising her neighbours by shouting and banging around in her house during the early hours of the morning.

Dr Hilary Wynne-Williams, aged 67, of Marseilles Close, Duston, appeared at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on Monday, charged with committing a further offence while she was serving a 30-month conditional discharge for harassment.

Ben Samples, prosecuting, said it was again a case of harassment, where Wynne-Williams disrupted her neighbours by shouting and banging around in her home in the early hours.

Neil Clark, mitigating, said Wynne-Williams qualified as a doctor in 1960 but her career abruptly ended five years later after she suffered a serious car crash.

He said she was seriously injured in the accident and it had affected her mental health.

Mr Clark said it was symptoms from the crash which had led to her committing the offences.

The court heard Wynne-Williams, who is deaf and followed the proceedings by lip-reading and looking at notes typed on a computer, receives support from carers in her home.

Presiding magistrate, Peter Riley, said he had to consider that the victim in the case had suffered considerably over a period of time and had therefore decided to impose a financial penalty.

He fined Wynne-Williams a total of £1,135, which included £620 costs for the case, which had been listed 22 times at the magistrates court.

Speaking after the hearing, Wynne-Williams said the accusations made against her were untrue and that the noises her neighbours could hear came from the M1 motorway.

She said: “The motorway was what they could hear. The accusations are absolute rubbish. None of it was true.”

She said that despite the outcome of the case she had no plans to move out of her home, and added: “I am going to stay here because I like it here and it’s convenient. I’m not going to move.”
