Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Lee Nicholls has joined the Cobblers on loan until the end of October.
The 19-year-old Liverpool-born England youth international shot stopper has impressed in the Latics Reserves and has enjoyed a number of loan spells, gaining Football League experience with Accrington last season.
“We needed a keeper who has talent and Football League experience,” said boss Aidy Boothroyd.
“He is a good keeper, he did well at this level last season and he knows a bit about league two.
“He has come here to get games under his belt. We are in a fortunate position as we already have an experienced, quality goalkeeper on our books and he is well on the way to recovery after a nasty injury. In addition, in Dean Snedker we have a young goalkeeper of massive potential also on our books and that is fantastic for us. I am sure Lee will come in and do a good job for us.”
The Cobblers only have two goalkeepers on the books at the moment - second-year scholar Dean Snedker and Shane Higgs, who will be sidelined until October with an Achilles injury sustained in January.
Neal Kitson, who played for the club over the back end of last season, has returned to the United States following the termination of his contract, while Connor Roberts had an unsuccessful trial at Sixfields this summer.
