Carlsberg has opened its new £20 million bottling plant in the centre of Northampton.

The brewing giant can process 60,000 bottles an hour in the new plant - a maximum of 10 million bottles a week.

The plant, which is known as the Carlsberg Cube, was opened by the firm’s president, Jørgen Buhl Rasmussen and the boss of Carlsberg UK, Benet Slay on Monday morning.

Mr Slay said: “This is a very important building, both for Carlsberg and Northampton.

“We’ve been brewing here since the 1970s and with the opening of this new facility, we’re bringing all our bottling to Northampton.”

Mr Rasmussen added: “This is a real milestone. We’ve been here for a long time and Northampton is our home in the UK.

“So this is a great day for me personally and for Carlsebrg.”

The development of the bottling plant has created 30 new jobs and doubled the amount of beer that can be bottled on the site.

All of the machinery inside the building has been brought to Northampton from Carlsberg’s former bottling line in Leeds.
