A ‘BIKE ‘N’ Bash fundraising effort in aid of charity is the novel idea hit upon by Duston United club coach David Barr.

Barr, along with club-mates Dean Conopo, Tony Wye and Dave Hutchinson plan to cycle to all 22 of the Northampton League clubs over the weekend of July 6/7, which coincides with the Wimbledon finals, and play a tie-break at each.

Barr said: “I wanted to do something for Cancer Research UK and the whole trip will total 165 miles.”

Starting at their home club at 8.30am on the Saturday, the intrepid quartet have scheduled an itinerary which involves visiting 14 clubs on the Saturday, but cycling less miles on the Sunday when that figure will rise to 92.3.

The Saturday route will take in Duston United, Dallington, King’s Park, Corby, Kettering, Ferrers, Wollaston, Earls Barton, Northampton, County, Abington, Rushmere, Collingtree and Roade.

Sunday will involve a broader sweep beyond the county border as after trips to Brackley, Towcestrians, Nether Heyford and Priors Marston, tie-breaks will take place at Rugby and LMRCA in Warwickshire, before returning to Northamptonshire to conclude at West Haddon, Harpole and finally back at Duston.

Anyone wishing to pledge support to Barr and his club-mates can do so by contacting him at dustontennis@fsmail.net or calling on 07912 746693.

THE Wilson’s Northampton Lawn Tennis League is to fully embrace the world of technology this summer by introducing the online submission of results through ‘Mydivision’.

Depending on reaction, the league is considering holding an educational night for team captains not fully versed in the laptop age...
