Bragging rights amongst the Brampton Heath Golf Club members are firmly in the junior camp after a team of youngsters outplayed the adults in an away day at Woodhall Spa.

With snow occasionally falling on a dry but windy day at the home of English Golf, a 14-player junior side recorded a convincing victory by over 20 points in the inaugural competition.

Back at the club, Daniel Curtis (38 points) won the fifth round of the Winter Series by three, while Harry Young (35) edged ahead of Roger Stobart on countback in the Senior Winter Stableford.

Overstone Park

High-handicapper Terry Yeo was outstanding in the March White Tee Stableford on his way to bagging 45 points. He dropped just three shots in his last seven holes to beat Peter Francis by three.

Dave Austin, who won the top section on countback, was also successful in his division during the March White Tee Mid-week Stableford a few days later with 38 points.

Fred White (40) edged out George Booth by a single point, while Averil Sutcliffe had the pleasure of beating all the men in the mid-handicap section after shooting 39.

Staverton

Good scores were few and far between in the March Stableford as the members found the going tough in the cold and wet conditions.

Michael Kingswood coped best, particularly over the back nine when the 15-handicapper carded five pars, to secure top spot with 34 points. Bart Pomerleau (33) was second by a single point from Andy Sant and Mike Milam.

Whittlebury

Gillian Long and Kay Edwards picked up the George Blues Ladies Trophy after defeating Tracey Mann and Jacqueline Jenkinson in the Winter KO final.

Steven McEneaney and Christian Williams beat Stuart Thomson and Alistair Heslop 2&1 to reach the Men’s Winter KO final. Rob Watson and David Melling play Simon Orrey and Michael Hancock in the other semi.

Northants County

Countback was needed in the March Medal as Dermot Commins grabbed the plaudits from Ken Stroud, Roger Brady and Sam Moreton, who won the lower category with a net 67.

The first division also needed countback to decide top spot as John McPhee (net 68) edged out Simon Richmond, who claimed the gross prize.

Cherwell Edge

Bob Pewsey’s stunning finish secured top spot in the eighth round of the Seniors Winter League as he finished four clear of the chasing pack.

The 26-handicapper parred the 15th, 16th and 17th holes, before dropping just one shot at the last to grab the plaudits from Keith England, Arthur Beeseley and Roy Neal.

Hellidon Lakes

Kevin Lovell’s brilliant start proved vital in the March Medal as the 22-handicapper completed his opening 11 holes in four-over-par on his way to a net 65.

Four birdies were on the scorecard of Martyn Bannister (67) as he finished runner-up by one from David Reeves. Daniel Harris (71) took the second division on countback from Michael Canning.

Kingsthorpe

Sue Jones just missed out on a ladies double as the winner of the March Medal earlier this month finished just one stroke behind Janet Tiefenthaler in the March Stableford.

Over 150 golfers will be competing in the Marc Birch Day tomorrow (Friday) as the club help raise money in memory of the former member, who died five years ago whilst serving for the marines.

Farthingstone

Alan Bosher has a 16-point cushion at the top of the Winter Order of Merit going into the sixth round. Andy Simmonds (44) and Roy Carter (42) are his nearest challengers.
