A man has been found guilty of raping a prostitute when she refused to let him perform a sex act on her.

Arturas Vasilivas attacked the girl, who was working for an escort agency, at his home in Abington Avenue,
Abington on October 13 last year.

Vasilivas, aged 33, denied rape when he first appeared at Northampton Crown Court in May.

But following a three-week trial, a jury sitting at the same court on Tuesday took three hours and 27 minutes to convict Vasilivas by a majority of 11 to one.

Prosecutor Mary Loram told the trial: “At the time of arrest, he clearly viewed her as an object with which he could do as he pleased. She was absolutely terrified.”

Vasilivas, now of Queens Crescent, Kingsthorpe, Northampton showed no emotion in the dock as he was convicted.

Addressing the jury, Judge Hilary Watson said: “This has been a very difficult case to listen to.

“You have had to endure some very difficult and distressing evidence. For that I commend your patience and resilience.”

The judge adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared. Vasilivas was remanded into custody ahead of sentencing at Birmingham Crown Court next month.

He was also told he must sign the Sex Offender’s Register.
