The annual Crazy Hats walk in Northamptonshire, which more than 2,500 were expected to attend, has been postponed until May due to the predicted heavy snow in the county this weekend.

The breast cancer charity’s fundraiser was due to be held at Wicksteed Park, Kettering, on Sunday morning but charity founder Glennis Hooper said after spending several hours agonising over the decision, the forecast of heavy snowfall meant they had to postpone.

The new date for the walk is Tuesday, May 14 and Ashleigh and Pudsey, who were due to attend on Sunday, will be at the rearranged event, which will be held in the evening.

Miss Hooper of Wellingborough said: “We have got to do the sensible thing, it’s people’s health and safety that’s paramount here.

“We don’t want anyone slipping over.

“We hope people will understand the dreadful decision we have had to make.

“The British weather is just so unpredictable.”

Miss Hooper added: “It’s an awful decision to have to make, it’s heartbreaking.”

The charity, which raises money to support and improve breast cancer treatment for Northamptonshire patients, has already started putting out posters and banners across the county to notify people of the postponement.

It is hoped anyone who had registered for the walk will honour the registration fee for the new date, which will be some time in September.

For more details about the postponement, call the charity on 01933 442999.

Further details can also be found on the charity’s website at www.crazyhatsbreastcancerappeal.co.uk.
