Young county trio bidding to impress England selectors

Three county players have been selected to take part in the English Indoor Bowling Association’s mixed under-18 England squad.

Connor Cinato, Chloe Wordingham and William Walker all bid to impress the selectors to earn a place in the England team to play in the British Isles Series in October.

County players take part in nationals

Several county players feature in National Finals ties at Nottingham IBC in the coming weeks.

Wellingborough IBC’s Neil Corbyn meets Edward Morris of Essex County on Thursday at 9.30am.

In the pairs, Darren Lyman and Paul Broderick, also from Wellingborough IBC, take on Jake Marlow and Steve Tuohy of Egham IBC on April 5 at 1.30pm.

Desborough IBC’s Jim Diver, Matt Pownall and John Haines prepare to face Egham IBC’s Ian Jenkins, Barry Jenkins and Steve Tuohy in the triples on April 2 at 6.30pm.

County representation in the fours sees Kingsthorpe IBC’s Andrew Manton, Ben Sharpe, Mick Sharpe and Neil McKee go head-to-head with Torquay United IBC’s Joe Melmore, Craig Down, Griff Sanders and Jamie Chestney on Sunday at 9.30pm.

Northants team to face Oxfordshire

Northants men entertain Oxfordshire IBA at Wellingborough BC on Wednesday, April 3.

Ladies lose out in Midland Counties League

Northants Ladies were beaten 132-103 by Bedfordshire in the Midland Counties League.

Ruthless Northants see off London Parks

The London Parks BA visited Northampton & District IBC last week to take on Northants in a friendly.

But the result was far from friendly towards the visitors, as the County were ruthless in the demolition of the Parks team by a massive 106 shots across the six rinks,with all the county rinks posting a win.

Three of the county’s rinks posted wins in excess of 20 shots, with the highest being the 29 shot win of Norman Gibb’s rink.

It could have been worse, for a seventh rink, which was a combination of the two sides as London Parks were short of players, also went the way of the all county rink, but the scores in that contest were not counted.

RINK SCORES – Rink one: John Smith, Dave Garland, Brian Jones, Tony Weston 25 shots – Vic Byrne 21 shots. Rink two: Will Clelland, Doug McGivern, Bob Tingle, Norman Gibb 38 shots – Salvitory Bruno 9 shots. Rink three: Keith Howlett, Terry Goodchild, Geoff Hunt, Ted Guiver 36 shots – Alan Baker 10 shots. Rink four: Tony Dicks, Andy Hogg, Brian Diver, Mick Worthington 35 shots – Don Cox 13 shots. Rink five: Roger Miller, Bob Sullivan, Geoff Harris, Terry James 24 shots – Reg Watson 16 shots. Rink six: Alan Baulch, John Clarke, Tony Warren, Reg Jones 28 shots – Bill Harrison 11 shots. Easy for Northants VPs

Northants VPs secured a comfortable 32-shot victory in a friendly against the Northamptonshire Retired Police BA at Desborough last Thursday.

Northampton Express on tour

Plans for the annual Northampton Express BC tour are well advanced and this year’s members will be touring Sussex.

The club will be based at the Afton Hotel, Eastbourne with fixtures arranged against Hove & Kingsway BC, Eastbourne BC, Worthing BC, Gullivers BC, Bexhill-on-Sea and White Rock BC, Hastings.
