TRIALIST Louis Moult scored twice as a Cobblers XI wrapped up the club’s pre-season friendly schedule with a draw at Kettering Town.
Town fielded a mixture of youth-team prospects and fringe players for the game at Nene Park, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
The visitors found themselves behind in the first minute. A cross from the Poppies right saw the ball come through to the back post, and although Gele Pacome seemed to have his boot high against Harry Mattock as the Poppies striker tried an overhead kick, play was allowed to continue and Jamie Griffiths supplied a powerful finish from 15 yards.
Dean Snedker did well to save with his legs when a shot came through a crowded penalty area on the half-hour mark, while seven minutes before half-time Lewis Wilson tested Kettering keeper Ben Gathercole, but the Poppies stopper made a good low save.
Five minutes before the break the Cobblers were level, Moult finishing with aplomb when played in one-on-one with keeper Gathercole.
Ishmel Demontagnac curled a free kick just over the bar in the final action of the first half.
The Poppies regained the lead on 51 minutes, Dean Snedker racing out of his area to try and clear ahead of Gele Pacome, but the keeper’s clearance rebounded against the striker from point blank range and rebounded into the empty net.
Moult pulled the Cobblers level again on 61 minutes, providing a superb lobbed finish as he latched on to Mukedni’s flick.
Mukendi himself went close on 74 minutes, firing a shot just wide from a long throw-in, while a Kettering free-kick was just wide with 10 minutes to play.
Both teams made a host of changes as the final match of the pre-season campaign drew to a close.
