A magician who preyed on vulnerable families to sexually abuse children over a 20-year period has been jailed for six years.

Ivan Russell, aged 42, abused children in Daventry as well as in Great Yarmouth, where he worked at a holiday camp entertaining families.

He was last month found guilty at Northampton Crown Court of 15 charges of sexual assault against children aged between eight and 15 years of age.

The offences took place in Daventry, as well as in Lancashire and Great Yarmouth.

He was jailed today, and branded a “dangerous predatory paedophile” by Judge Rupert Mayo.

Russell was sentenced to six years imprisonment, with an extended licence period of four years. Once released from prison, he will spend the rest of the prison sentence, as well as the extended period, on licence.

He will also remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.
