Only Conservatives and Labour field candidates for every seat in Northamptonshire election

Only the Conservatives and Labour have managed to field candidates for all 57 seats in the forthcoming Northamptonshire County Council elections.

Nominations for the election on May 2 were announced today.

They show that both the Conservatives and Labour have a full tally of 57 candidates while the Liberal Democrats have just 52.

UKIP have their largest ever candidate list, with 44, while the Green Party have just 14.

A handful of independent candidates and smaller groups are also standing, including the BNP who have 11 candidates, the English Democrats who have five and Trade Unionists and Socialists Against Cuts, who have four.

In Northampton, there are a total of 17 seats on the county council up for grabs.

The election list shows the Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Democrats will field candidates for all of Northampton’s 17 seats.

UKIP will field a total of 12 candidates in Northampton while the Green Party will field nine.

The BNP will field only three candidates in Northampton.

In all, a total of 254 people are standing for the 57 seats on the council.
