Saints rugby players have taken over the cooking at Nandos in Northampton town centre tonight.

The charitable sportsmen will raise funds for the Cynthia Spencer Hospice in Kettering Road with the third annual event.

Players including Ben Foden, Soane Tonga’uiha and Lee Dickson, will man the tills, cook on the grills and serve food to customers while they try to raise more than £2,000 for the charity.

England rugby player Ben Foden said: “Northampton is a massive rugby town and we are always proud that we can fill our stadium each week and it’s good to give back to the community and keep that connection with the fans.”

He added: “I’m a big Nandos fan and a few of the boys are here more often than not.”

Saints fans will enjoy their favourite Nandos meal, have the chance to chat to players and the opportunity to take part in a challenge to eat a plate of spicy wings in the shortest time to win a year’s supply of Nandos.

Clive Greening, manager at the restaurant, said: “The players love doing this and they are the most accomodating guys when it comes to the fans.

“Although we are a national brand we like to keep it local for charity and this is a great cause.”

Fund-raising manager at Cynthia Spencer Hospice, John Helm, said: “It’s a fantastic event. The Saints have never forgotten that Northampton is their home and they support their local hospice.”
