Aussie Copeland pleased with County debut at Glamorgan

Trent Copeland admitted that he was happy with his debut bowling performance in a Northamptonshire shirt.

The Australian, who only got into the country on Tuesday, took one for 23 from 15 economical overs on Wednesday as the County made short work of the Glamorgan order on the opening day of their LV= Championship Division Two clash in Cardiff after winning the toss.

And he hopes that it will be the start of a productive stint, saying: “It was good without setting the world on fire.

“I’m glad that we were able to roll them for 130 and I’m starting to get the feel of the Dukes ball and am happy with how I contributed.

“The boys are all in good spirits and hopefully we can get a good first innings lead.

“We spoke about bowling our areas, keeping the scoreboard tight and taking our catches so everything fell into place.

“I think part of the reason they’ve got me over here is that my natural length is hopefully going to be pretty effective.

“I’m just trying to learn the little intricacies, changing the angle on the crease and things like that, which is a good challenge for me.”

As for plying his trade in conditions that hardly lend themselves to a so-called summer game, Copeland is praying for some warmer weather to arrive.

He added: “I’m freezing and I don’t think I’ve been this cold for about 10 years since I was over here playing league cricket, so it’ll take a bit of getting used to.

“The body’s a bit stiff but I’m glad that we could bowl them out so I can put my feet up.

Steven Crook claimed four wickets and Andrew Hall three as Glamorgan were dismissed for 134, with Northants replying with 108 for three before rain ended play on day one, skipper Stephen Peters holding the innings together with an unbeaten 60 following the cheap dismissals of Kyle Coetzer, David Sales and Alex Wakely, who was out first ball.
