Northamptonshire’s men recorded a victory in their first outing of the year as they defeated the county seniors team 3½-2½ at Kingsthorpe on Sunday.
Fraser Carnihan (Brampton) and Lewis White (Northampton) got the first team off to a winning start as they defeated Jim Weston and Malcolm Nicholson 2&1 in game one.
The seniors levelled when Martin Harris (Northampton) joined in-form Alan Linney (Northants County) to beat Adam Print (Northants County) and Overstone’s Richard Dalton, who stepped in as captain for Jim Campbell.
Last year’s county champion Miles Mudge (Staverton) combined with Bob Clayton (Cold Ashby) to restore the first team’s advantage on the 17th hole.
Debutants Nick Herridge (Brampton) and Matt Myers (Northants County) lost, but the impressive Jack Brown (Brampton) and Graham Bott (Cold Ashby) ensured at least a draw for the county men.
Although Tom Anderson (Overstone) and Michael Campbell (Kettering) lost the 18th to Keith Saker (Northampton) and Jim Tricklebank (Overstone) their halved match was still sufficient to confirm victory.
Northamptonshire will now complete their warm up for this year’s Anglian League when they face Bedfordshire at Wellingborough this weekend.
