An illegal immigrant will be deported once he has served a sentence for running a cannabis factory at a house in Northampton.
Thanh Van Ha, aged 20, from Vietnam, admitted producing cannabis at an address in Falcutt Way, Kingsthorpe, and was jailed for a year at Northampton Crown Court last week.
Sentencing Van Ha, Recorder Sam Mainds said: “Your background is little different to the background of many young Vietnamese men who come before these courts, charged with the same offences you are.
“It is a story of a sad upbringing and being exploited by people further up the chain.
“I accept your role was as a gardener, whose role it was to cultivate these exotic plants.
“It would be quite wrong for the court to give an over-lenient sentence.
“As always, in particular with drugs, it must be shown the courts do not approve of this behaviour.”
The case first came to court in December last year, but was held up due to issues with interpreters.
At another hearing last month, Judge Richard Bray criticised Capita TI, the company which provides interpreters to Northampton Crown Court, calling that case a “farce.”
