More than 8,500 school places have today been allocated to Northamptonshire children due to start primary school in September.
Northamptonshire County Council has posted letters to every parent or guardian detailing which school they have been offered and figures show nine out of 10 received their first choice.
Families who applied using the council’s online system have been able to check their offer on the council’s website this morning.
The total number of applications received by Northamptonshire County Council for primary school places was 8,531.
A total of 90 per cent of parents and guardians have been allocated their first preference school, equivalent to 7,675 pupils and eight per cent, a total of 650 pupils, have been given their second or third preference.
A total of 206 pupils, two per cent of those who applied on time have not got any of their preferences.
In a change from last year, the council processed only those applications it received on time.
Late applications received after the closing date of January 15 are currently being processed and parents will be notified of their allocation during a second round of allocations in May.
Leigh Wolmarans, headteacher of Lings Primary School, said the day the primary school allocations were announced was always one filled with mixed emotions.
He said: “We are oversubscribed like a lot of schools in the town and it can be a difficult day for some parents if they don’t get their first choice school.
“But we only get to see the reactions of parents who have siblings at the school and I’ve had five happy parents come up to me today and say they got places in the school.”
Any parents who want more details about the admissions results can go to information events attended by representatives from the council’s admissions, appeals, school improvement, school transport and libraries teams.
They take place on Tuesday, April 23, at Kettering Conference Centre and Wednesday, April 24, at Northampton Town Football Club.
