Businessmen from India and Russia and a former Deputy Prime Minister are among the wealthiest people in Northamptonshire, according to the latest edition of the Sunday Times Rich List.
The list, which is due to be published in full on Sunday, shows the wealthiest person in Northamptonshire is Anil Aggarwal, an Indian entrepreneur who is on the board of Earls Barton shoe company, Barker Shoes.
Despite his interest in the historic shoe firm, Mr Aggarwal has built up most of his £404 million fortune from iEngergizer, an Indian company offering back-office functions to blue-chip companies.
The second richest person in the county is Easton Neston resident, Leon Max, who has £400 million.
The Russian fashion designer moved to the county in 2005 when he bought Lord Hesketh’s family home of Easton Neston near Towcester for about £15 million.
Also in the Rich List is former politician, Michael Heseltine, who has £264 million from his ownership of publishing house Haymarket Media, which publishes a range of magazines, including Autosport, football magazine Four Four Two and gadget magazine, Stuff.
The former Deputy Prime Minister, who served in Margaret Thatcher’s Government, has a home in Thenford near Brackley and a 1,200 acre farm near Banbury.
Other Northamptonshire residents in the list include Max Griggs and Tony Travis.
Mr Griggs, who is worth £165 million, is the president of the R Griggs Group, which owns the Dr Martens shoe company
In 1992 he bought Rushden Town and Irthlingborough Diamonds football clubs and merged them into Rushden and Diamonds before selling the club to the fans in 2005 for £1.
In joint 20th place in the East Midlands is Tony Travis, owner of the builders’ merchants, Travis Perkins.
In the past year, the businessman has seen his fortune increase from £115 million to £165 million.
