Northampton College has announced its new principal who will start in September.

Pat Brennan-Barrett is currently vice-principal of curriculum and quality at Havering College of Further and Higher Education in Essex.

She will replace Len Closs who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Ms Brennan-Barrett said: “It is an honour to have been selected by the college to be the next principal.

“I am delighted to be offered this opportunity and I am looking forward to working with such a successful college.

“I would like to pay tribute to the current principal, Len Closs who has led the college to a strong position, in particular with the achievement of a ‘good’ grade from Ofsted in the college’s recent inspection and the creation of a truly world class building at Booth Lane.”

Ms Brennan-Barrett started her career as a secondary school teacher and later moved into the further and higher education sector where she has spent the last 18 years.

She has previously worked at Weald College, Greenhill College, Oaklands College and the College of North West London.

Chairman of Governors at Northampton College, Roger Morris, said: “On behalf of the college’s governors, I am delighted to announce the post of principal has been accepted by Pat Brennan-Barrett.

“The corporation has confidence she will lead the college through the challenging times ahead.”

Northampton College’s current principal, Len Closs, announced his retirement following 11 years at the helm.

Ms Brennan-Barrett said: “I look forward to working closely with the governors, staff, partners, local employers and the wider community in Northampton.

“My aim is to empower teams within the college to achieve their full potential, so the students can be successful in securing their best possible results and progress on to employment or further or higher education.

“I will be wholly focussed on supporting economic growth for Northamptonshire and on leading Northampton College to become an even brighter star.”
