Northampton’s links with Shakespeare will be celebrated at Abington Park Museum later this month.
The museum will launch its new exhibition on Saturday May 18 with an afternoon of theatrical performances by Masque Theatre and craft activities at the home of his granddaughter, Elizabeth Bernard, who lived at Abington Manor for 20 years.
Councillor Brandon Eldred, Northampton Borough Council’s cabinet member for community engagement, said: “The links with Abington and Shakespeare highlight an important part of local history that we should be proud of.
“The event and exhibition will be a great chance for everyone to enjoy the organised activities and learn more about the much-loved park museum, not only focusing when Abington Manor was home to Shakespeare’s granddaughter but also exploring how it was used as an asylum in the nineteenth century.”
The event is free and will be held on Saturday May 18 from 1pm to 4pm. General museum opening times are Thursday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays 1pm to 5pm. Admission is free.
