Reading the report on the sheer scale of the University of Northampton’s plans for moving lock, stock and barrel into the town centre can’t help but leave you impressed.
These are the first real indicators as to just how big and important this project is both for the university and the town.
Multi-storey buildings, impressive leisure facilities and even a hotel, a new site could be ready for business within five years . Meanwhile, prime housing development land would be freed up on the current Avenue and, particularly, Park campuses.
All this comes in a week when the university shifted almost 40 places up one of the most influential league tables for higher education and its vice-chancellor, Professor Nick Petford, visited Brazil to launch a scholarship programme there. Coupled with the other efforts to extend its global image, from student programmes to sponsorship of the Saints, it is not difficult to see just how ambitious the institution is, just eight years after becoming an official university.
Every time there is an election, we urge you to go out and vote and this year is no different. It may have been a low key campaign, relatively, but the issues are still there to be tackled. Having your say via the ballot box is a democratic right that was long fought for and hard won.
Don’t waste that right to vote today.
