More than 200 residents have signed a petition against plans to turn a historic pub into houses.
Hannington pub in Red House Lane, Hannington, is more than 150 years old but has been closed for about nine years.
Daventry District Council will meet on Thursday to discuss a planning application from Buildway Development Ltd to turn the building - which was also formerly known as the Old Red House - into three properties, of one, two and three stories, to make three homes, along with garages.
Clorissa Paul, aged 32, of Maidwell, who is heading the campaign against the plans, said: “It is a fantastic old building and everybody knows it. It’s a landmark for Northamptonshire.
“It has so much history and it seems such a shame to get rid of it.”
The planning application for the site, which lies in the countryside close to the A43, has been recommedned for approval at the meeting, which will take place in the Council Chamber in the council offices in Lodge Road, Daventry at 6.15pm.
The application says the building has been subject to vandalism over the years it has been unoccupied and the site is unkempt and overgrown.
Miss Paul said: “The building is in a sorry state because it has been left empty but it’s in a good condition. Pubs are not doing very well at the moment but I don’t think it should be turned into housing because nobody has tried anything else with it yet.
“It could be a restaurant or a hotel and then the building could be kept.
“Everyone has got memories from the pub or got a story about it. I just want people to have the chance to say if they want to save it or not before the decision is made.”
