A 33-year-old man was pulled into a car against his will, punched in the stomach and then let out during an incident in Northampton.

The attack happened in St Andrew’s Road, Northampton, overnight between Sunday May 5 and Monday May 6.

The victim was walking towards Scarletwell Street when the driver of a ‘brown/red’ Vauxhall Astra, which was parked in the street, got out and called over to him.

He recognised the driver who asked him to get into the car, the victim refused, at which point the offender pushed him into the car. He then drove off with the victim, for a short distance, until he stopped to punch him in the stomach and let him out of the car near the junction of St Andrew’s Road and Spencer Bridge Road.

A police spokesman said: “The offender is described as a white man with tanned skin, approximately 25 to 27-years-old, between 5ft 7ins and 5ft 9ins tall, of slim build and was wearing blue jeans and a brown jacket.

“Officers would particularly like to speak to a woman who was walking ahead of the victim in St Andrew’s Road, shortly before the incident took place.

“She was a white woman, aged in her early 20s and between 5ft 2” and 5ft 5” tall, of medium build and with shoulder length, brown hair, which was tied up. She was wearing a black military style jacket, black leggings and white boots,” he said.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with this incident and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Witnesses to this incident, or anyone with information, should call Northamptonshire Police on 101 - alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
