Northamptonshire’s search for a second overseas player for the Friends Life t20 competition remains a work in progress.
With Australian Cameron White already secured for a second stint with the Steelbacks in the shortest form, attempts to fill the second slot have so far come to nothing.
Shaun Marsh was offered a contract but turned it down and links with Mitchell Johnson proved to be just that.
But chief executive David Smith is hopeful of having some positive news by the end of the week and admitted that talks are continuing with an unnamed all-rounder.
He said: “There is nothing to report of as yet but we’re definitely still trying to get someone in.
“It’s a difficult market out there and you have to search for the kind of player you want.
“We’re talking to an all-rounder and will get back in touch with his agent during the week and see where it goes.
“We’re hopeful of something happening later in the week, it’s just a case of sitting tight and waiting.”
The Steelbacks’ Friends Life t20 campaign gets under way on Friday, June 28 when Gloucestershire are the visitors to the County Ground.
