Stephen Peters is facing a spell on the sidelines after breaking a finger.
The Northamptonshire captain suffered the injury in the indoor nets prior to the start of the first day of the County Championship clash with Leicestershire at the County Ground.
No time for recovery has been given as yet but it is likely to be in the region of a month before he can make a return.
It is a significant blow for the County given the strong start they have made to the season and Peters has been at the forefront with a century and two 50s in four appearances.
Rob Keogh, who was in Taunton with the Second XI, has been called up to replace Peters.
