East Midlands Conservative MEP, Emma McClarkin, will again stand as a candidate in the European elections in 2014.

Miss McClarkin, who lives near Market Harborough, has been endorsed by the panel representing Tory members from across the East Midlands, and will therefore be the top Conservative candidate in the regional ‘list’ system used in the European elections.

She said: “I am delighted to have been re-adopted. It is a huge honour and great privilege to serve the people of the East Midlands.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the last four years as MEP but there is still much work to do. I look forward to the year ahead leading to the European elections in 2014 and the debate on our future relationship with the EU. Our message is clear – if you want an in or out referendum the Conservatives are the only party who can deliver this.”

Miss McClarkin, who is 34 and has a law degree from Bournemouth University, was one of two Tory MEPs elected in 2009, but one of them, Roger Helmer, has since defected to UKIP.
