Hundreds of Cobblers fans formed a long queue at Northampton Railway Station this morning ahead of their team’s big game at Wembley today.
Up to 10,000 football fans from the town are expected to travel by train today and London Midland said this week it had hired a number of extra trains from other operators, including Virgin Trains, allowing them to run additional non-stop services from Northampton to London approximately half-hourly between 8am-10.30am.
However, it is belived that the 7.05am train to London was cancelled and at 7.30am the queue was already stretching back into the railway station’s overflow car park.
Despite the long queue the Cobblers fans remained in good spirits ahead of the big match against Bradford at Wembley.
Jake Moore, aged 23, of Kingsthorpe, said he thought the Cobblers were going to win 1-0 with a late strike by Kelvin Langmead.
He said: “I don’t think Langmead will start but I believe he will come off the bench and score in the last minute.
“I’ve been so excited about the match, it feels like Christmas. I couldn’t sleep last night.
“My message to the team would be do it beastmode and do it for Nicholls.”
Cobblers fan Steve Skinner, was joined by his seven year old daughter Holly, who is going to her first match at Wembley.
Mr Skinner, of Far Cotton, said: “My daughter is really excited. I think the match is going to be tight but I think we will win 2-1.
“I think the boys have got to do it for the town.”
Cobblers fan Carol Birch of Billing said “I think they will win 3-0. I would tell the boys to go out and do their best.
“We don’t mind what train we got on as long as we get one.”
