Rural landowners are being urged to use a consultation on the HS2 high-speed rail plans to highlight the “devastating impact” of compulsory land purchase orders.
Environmental consultation events are being held along the proposed route, including in Northamptonshire, to seek initial views on the effects of the new HS2 line.
The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) wants people to respond to the HS2 Draft Environmental Statement consultation, which ends on July 11.
The Northamptonshire event, which covers the line between Greatworth and Lower Boddington, will be held at Boddington Village Hall in Warwick Road, Upper Boddington, on Monday, June 3, from midday to 8pm.
CLA President Harry Cotterell said: “The consultation document refers to fairness in compulsory purchase. However, compulsory purchase is so grossly unfair it makes the relationship between supermarkets and farmers seem like a level playing field.
“Rural landowners have their land compulsorily purchased and are forced to live with the consequences for generations. We have produced a report which addresses many of the deficiencies in the current system and spells out the practical solutions we have put to ministers and MPs.
“It is important everyone affected by the route takes a careful look at these new maps and additional detail. We will ensure our voices are heard – it is not just about land and buildings, it’s about homes and livelihoods.”
